Our New Hauler

We've purchased a 1993 Freightliner FLD120 road tractor and we are currently (as time allows) building both a motor home to fit on the chassis, and a trailer to haul the tractor in.  The famous "big blue bus" has served us well over the years, but with more and more friends and family members coming to the pulls, and the miles between the pulls increasing, we're simply outgrowing it.  We're nearing completion now, working on the finishing touches of this massive project. Keep an eye on this page for pictures and information. Thanks!

Update 4/27/08:

Adding an awesome shadow stripe to the graphics has really made this paint job "pop" off of the truck.  It gives it a very cool 3D look, and should turn some heads.  We're very pleased with how it looks.  Now, we're going to buff the whole box with a good buffing wheel and micro-finish compound.  This will take the haze out of the original white paint, smooth the edges on the graphics, shine the rivets, and bring back the original luster of the box.  Once buffing is complete, we'll mount the completed bumper, air dam, and then put in the windows!  The exterior is just steps from being checked off the "to-do" list!

Update 4/22/08:

The air dam is all painted up!! I also added pictures of the bumper with it's coating of clear-coat.  We're getting ready to tape and paint drop-shadows on the stripes of the box, almost done with the paint job!!

Update 4/15/08:

All of the stripes on the sides of the box are complete!!  The pictures below show every step! Only the air dam is left to paint, plus any shadowing or accents we chose to paint to compliment the stripes.

Update 3/30/08:

The graphics are all wet-sanded and ready to be painted now! Also, the dinette seats are built and the suspension systems are webbed and ready for be skinned with wood, to be fitted into the coach. We'll be painting soon! P.S. Check out the possible graphic we'll be painting on the air dam.

Update 3/25/08:

We're prepping for paint now, taping the stripe lines down both sides of the box.  Kevin has the bumper all built, and is now prepping it for paint, also.  Stay tuned for paint pictures.

Update 2/21/08:

The bathroom is complete except for a mirror, trim and a shower enclosure. The bumper is awaiting top pieces and fog light and license plate cutouts.  We've started to build the seating for the dinette.

Update 2/10/08:

The bumper is about half done already, bathroom 90%

Update 2/4/08:

The wallpapering is done!  Countertops, and a stainless tile backsplash are next.

Update 1/27/08:

The cab is coming back together now, the cab is gutted and ready for new interior panels, dash repair, and new seats.

Update 1/1/08:

The cab, hood, fairings, visor and doors are all done, painted and clear-coated. All that's left to do is paint the box and finish the last steps of the interior and the coach will be complete! Check out these new pictures:

Update 12/27/07:

The back of the coach is finished now, you can see in the pictures here... we rebuilt and painted the back of the coach, and made one heck of a continental kit for this beast!  Right now we're wet sanding all of the parts of the front of the truck that are painted with primer: the cab, doors, hood, visor, air dam and fairings.  It's a messy and time-consuming job, but for the paint to lay down nice and smooth it takes a good amount of elbow grease. Once everything is nice and smooth, we're hoping to paint on Saturday, Sunday and have everything wrapped up by New Year's Day.  Keep voting for your favorite paint job before it's too late!  See the HOME page. Stay tuned!

Update 12/24/07:

Well, all of the construction is done on the exterior of the coach, now it's down to paint!  On the inside, all that's left to do is to hang the last two small cabinets, button down some detail things like trim -- then put in the flooring, wallpaper and ceiling treatment.  To paint this massive beast without coating all of the Jerew's Service Center customer vehicles with overspray, we constructed a makeshift paint booth right in the shop, and began painting the rear first, before moving on to the cab and hood, which we disassembled for painting.  After we get a good coat of white on everything, we'll be painting graphics. Check the HOME page to see our little fan-input section where you can help us choose which graphics to paint. More pictures will soon follow as progress is rapid.
